About the Vodex ChiroPOD® UVC Filtration System
The Vodex ChiroPOD® UVC Filtration System is a dedicated dust and fume extraction unit for podiatry and chiropody, combining powerful source-capture extraction, five-stage filtration and germicidal UV-C sterilisation to keep clinic and treatment-room air clean and safe. Foot-care procedures — nail drilling, and the treatment of callouses, corns and routine exfoliation — generate fine airborne dust that practitioners breathe throughout the working day. Distributed in the UK by VTM UK LTD, the ChiroPOD UVC captures that dust at the point it is created and treats the extracted air before returning it to the room, protecting the people who do the work.
Why podiatry and chiropody need dedicated extraction
Nail dust is not inert. Analysis of the dust collected during foot-care procedures has found keratin, keratin hydrolysates, microbial debris and viable fungal elements, including dermatophytes and saprotrophs. Treating callouses and corns adds further microbial dust to the air. Inhaled over time, these particles are associated with respiratory disorders such as occupational asthma and rhinitis. General-purpose room ventilation does not remove dust at the source; a purpose-built extractor with a capture nozzle positioned at the treatment point does — which is why source-capture extraction is regarded as essential for practitioner health in podiatry and chiropody.
Five-stage filtration with certified H13 HEPA and UV-C
The ChiroPOD UVC draws contaminated air through five sequential stages. A 254 nm UV-C sterilisation filter inactivates micro-organisms in the airstream; a unique polyester antimicrobial silver-nitrate mist eliminator captures the high-humidity mist and larger debris generated by treatment; an evaporating plenum box with a moisture-resistant synthetic pre-filter manages humidity; a UK-manufactured and tested H13 HEPA filter — 99.95% efficient to 0.1 micron, to EN 1822 ISO 35H and supplied with a full test certificate — traps the fine particulate, including the sub-micron fraction that carries microbial and fungal matter; and a special blended carbon filter addresses chemical vapours and odours. Together, the stages remove both particulate and biological contamination, so the air returned to the room is genuinely clean rather than simply recirculated.
Built for the treatment room
Practical, clinic-ready design runs through the unit. The design-registered RigiFLEX® multi-position, telescopic and reversible arm gives 1.3 m of reach with a 55 mm-diameter nozzle and a removable, cleanable PETG AeroSHIELD® barrier screen, so the practitioner can place capture exactly where the dust is generated and reposition it easily between tasks. Airflow is a strong 300 m³/hr with an internal dust diffuser and speed control, yet the unit draws only 210 W from a standard 230 V single-phase supply. A blocked-filter alarm signals when a filter needs changing, filter changes are quick and easy, and the extractor is mobile on locking wheels — compact at 410 × 425 × 250 mm (H × W × D) and quiet at under 57 dBA, important in a room where practitioner and patient are in close conversation.
